A study from USC-Brookings shows that 21 million or more people will loss coverage by 2026 and this number grows to over 30 million after 2027 under Graham-Cassidy. This bill undoes all of the coverage gains under the ACA. And even worse it punishes those states that have done the most to expand coverage by reducing funding to those states the most. If the goal is to experiment and give flexibility why cut funding? And we shouldn't be allowing states and insurance companies to deny coverage or price out people with pre-existing conditions. We need to be working towards universal coverage not undoing these gains!
My prayers for the person injured and all of the students, staff, and their families in Mattoon after the shooting yesterday. I am also very thankful for the teacher who stopped the shooting and to all of the first responders.
Graham-Cassidy is a bad bill. It punishes states that have tried to expand coverage. It drastically cuts funding and removes protections for pre-existing conditions. This bill should never be brought to a vote. Pretty much every major medical group agrees that this bill is terrible.
This article is really showing the reasons for Republicans trying to pass Graham-Cassidy. It isn't because they think it solves any actual problems with the ACA. It definitely isn't because they think it is going to benefit Americans. It is for political reasons. They think they have to do something and passing anything is better for them politically. This goes to my post from yesterday. Our legislators job is to improve policy and make conditions better for Americans. It isn't to pass bad laws that will hurt millions because you think it will help you politically. We need to elect legislators that will work to solve problems and improve the lives of Americans. I will do that if I am elected.
